The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – Book Cover Design

Concept

I am very fond of this design. The book tells the story of a child who steps through a wardrobe into another world. In my concept, I transformed the entire book into a wardrobe—both the front and back covers act as wardrobe doors. The little girl travels from the back to the front, symbolizing her passage into the world of Narnia.

I chose to place the world of Narnia on the front cover because I wanted readers to step into the story just like the character does. As the girl moves from the back to the front, she enters the snowy, magical land of Narnia. By placing the wardrobe in the middle of a snow-covered landscape, I hoped to spark a sense of wonder—inviting readers to ask, “Why is this wardrobe standing in the snow?” That little mystery encourages them to open the book and begin the journey.

I also had fun with typography: I turned the “O” in “Lion” into a lion’s face and stylized the word “Witch” to resemble a witch, adding playful visual storytelling to the title itself.
